Red Cross to Present 3rd Annual Shelter Rodeo

For Immediate Release

Red Cross to Present 3rd Annual Shelter Rodeo

TUCSON, June 16, 2010 – Two churches and an office in the Tucson area will be the scenes of an emergency response drill this Saturday.

The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct this drill, called a Shelter Rodeo, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Pantano Christian Church, Desert Son Community Church, and the Red Cross chapter office.

The "Shelter Rodeo" is designed as a readiness exercise for the many partner organizations that work closely with the Red Cross in the event disasters would require sheltering operations. With fire and monsoon seasons approaching locally and hurricanes on the national scene, this event is an important exercise to practice sheltering skills and procedures.

Partner agencies that will be involved with the Shelter Rodeo are Pima County Citizen Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.) and Medical Reserve Corp. (MRC) and Faith Based Organizations.

Operating a successful shelter takes more than luck.  The Shelter Rodeo is designed to make our shelters a place where the residents feel safe and cared for. This is a “hands-on” learning experience which is informative and fun.

When:  Saturday, June 19, 2010, 9:00am-3:00pm.
Where:  Three locations:

  • Pantano Christian Church, 10355 E. 29th St., Tucson, AZ 85748
